What is required for a Pacific Excess appointment?

Your agency should focus primarily on Commercial business and be in good standing with the department of insurance. During your appointment with us, you must keep your license active and your E&O current, as we will request updated documents upon the renewal each term. You must also keep us informed of your address updates and personnel changes, including email addresses and phone number. These documents and notices can be submitted to our Marketing Department at marketing@pacificexces.com 

Does Pacific Excess charge a fee to get appointed or have a premium quota requirement?

Never. Pacific Excess does not charge any fee to get an appointment with us nor do we have any premium quotas. We only require that you actively place business with us, whether large or small accounts, to keep your appointment active. Brokers with no active policies with us for one year or more are subject to review and termination.

How do I obtain a Pacific Excess appointment?

Simply complete the New Broker Questionnaire (link to pdf questionnaire) and return it to us with copies of your license, E&O declarations page, and your current W9. New appointments are considered where we are licensed and where market access exists.

Do I need to be appointed to get a quote from Pacific Excess?

If you don’t have an appointment you can get an indication only for your risk. We will require that your agency is appointed to receive a formal quote and bind the risk.

Does Pacific Excess charge an inspection fee?

If the risk requires an inspection by the carrier there is usually a mandated fee involved. However not all risks require an inspection.

If my policy is bound with a surplus lines carrier, who will do the SLA filing?

Our team will handle the surplus lines filing for your policy, as we are fully licensed as a Surplus Lines Broker. We will require that you complete the SLA forms fully and accurately so that we can do our filings in a timely mannerThe forms needed in California are: D-1 (PDF) and SL-2 (PDF) or use the CA SLA SL-2 Form Generator. If the risk is outside of California, please ask your underwriter or check with that state’s SLA for the required form. Each state is different.

What rules apply regarding cancellation notices?

Pacific Excess and their carrier partners follow statutory guidelines regarding cancellations. 

Admitted Carriers: Cancellation for underwriting reasons may only be done within 60 days of the effective date and must give 30 days’ notice. 

Admitted Carriers: Cancellation for non-compliance of mandatory recommendations may only be done within 60 days of the effective date and must give 30 days’ notice. 

Cancellation for non-payment of premium is 10 days’ notice. 

Cancellation can be requested by the broker or the insured. Original policy or signed Cancellation/ Policy Release must be presented with request and may not be back dated for more than 10 days. 

What is the procedure for requesting loss runs?

E-mail your request to your Underwriter (link to contact page) with detailed policy information. The Loss Run will be provided within 10 working days.

What applications or forms do you require to get a quote?

We will accept completed ACORD forms. For Property & Casualty, you can use ACORD 125, 126 and/or 140. For Workers Compensation, use ACORD 130. If the carrier requires a supplemental form, your underwriter will provide it to you.

What commission does Pacific Excess pay?

Commissions will vary depending on the carrier/market and any promotional period where we will offer even higher commissions. You will generally find that Pacific Excess offers a higher commission scenario than its competitors. 

Are you offering any promotions or bonuses?

Pacific Excess will often offer new business promotions with cash bonuses or gift cards to brokers that bind specific new business. Please check with your underwriter or our marketing team for any current promotions.

Do you offer online quoting?

At this time because of the complexity of the risks we write and the various markets we access, we do not offer online quoting. You can send your applications directly to your underwriter and they should respond within 24 hours. Our underwriters are seasoned professionals with 20-40 years of experience between them handling complex accounts and classes.

Do you accept BORs?

Yes and No. It depends on the situation, which we will review all cases individually. If you have a BOR for a policy you wish to take over from a long-standing broker partner of ours, we will review the details and make a decision. If your BOR is for an account we don’t already have, yes we will accept it, but please note we do not accept mid-term BORs.
